Oranjestad, Aruba- This coming August, 297 Baseball Academy is preparing for their first annual Aruba Baseball Weekend event.
On August 7th, 8th, and 9th, players from Aruba and neighboring islands will come together for Aruba Baseball Weekend. Founder Brodie Carey has once again put together an elite staff of coaches from the United States and Aruba. Joining us as guest coaches will be Jason Oldham (GLG Athletic Performance), Lexi Rodi (Nichols College), Mackenzie Doyle (Community College of Rhode Island), Dayna Jackvony (Community College of Rhode Island), Joe Gumbs (Former Professional Prospect & Aruba Native), and James Carey (Chicago Cubs Scout). The 297 staff of Brodie Carey, Ryan Huntington, Joshua Simon, and Marshall Quinley, will be present. What is the reasons behind Brodie choosing these coaches for his staff? He believes it is essential for the players to be around former and current collegiate players. They learn college level drills, can ask questions about what it is like to play in college, and learn valuable information about the recruiting process. Adding Jason Oldham is also critical to the physical development of players off and on the field. This coming August, Jason's involvement will increase, as he has a special two hour time slot to personally work with players. Adding James Carey, time and time again, is a great resource for any player. It allows them to work hands on with a professional scout and showcase themselves.
This event schedule differs from any event we have had in the past. The event will start on Friday August 7th. Ages 13 and above will have a 3 hour baseball workout in the morning. During this time they will be put through a professional workout to showcase their skills. Later that night, GLG Athletic Performance will put players through an hour workout under the lights. This will also be a time for parents to ask questions and take on field videos. The next day ages 13 and above have an off day. Ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 will each have a two and half hour baseball workout in the morning and afternoon. These workouts will consist of developmental drills, mass repetitions, and instructional seminars. On the final day, the younger ages will repeat the same schedule. That night from 4PM to 7PM, ages 13 and above will have a showcase game. We encourage all younger ages to come and watch as you can learn a lot from observing the game.
